Origins
UltraKeet has its roots set far back in late 1999, under the parent business name "Horizons Edge". In truth, the business was initially registered as a means to make people feel "safer" about writing cheques for any work performed as a sole-trader! Apparently we humans like to write cheques to business entities rather than individuals.
We started off as a two man team (in fact, we pretty much still are after ten years!) and our initial tasks mainly involved the servicing of computer systems, network infrastructure and associated hardware for a handful of public schools in the Sydney area. Eventually we branched out into consulting, data recovery and communications cabling, then pretty much whatever the industry required at the time.
Unfortunately, as time passed, more and more of our jobs became outsourced to cheap callcentres. Component-level repairs quickly turned card-level, and eventually it was no longer feasible to repair hardware, as entire replacements cost only a fraction more to purchase. Mainstream companies such as DELL and HP killed off small businesses such as ours, the advent of Microsoft Frontpage made everyone believe they were web designers, and as a result it became harder to survive as a business.
Fast forward ten years, and we've had no choice but to become a two-man conglomerate. We currently hold contracts with Broadcast Services Australia as Satellite Technicians, we manage multiple web development projects at any one time, design and engineer complex electronic hardware, pre-wire homes for voice and data and the list goes on.
The Logo
Why a parrot? We're actually bird fanatics by night. The logo was modelled after our pet Lorikeet "Steve", who it seems, has spontaneous bursts of insanity both in and outside of his cage. We're also avid supporters of wildlife rescue programs, specifically the Parrot Rescue Centre's cockatoo sanctuary program, which we've enlisted our pet cockatoo of 10 years "KaKa" into in hope for a better, more natural life.
